How is coaching different from consulting?

Consultants are experts in one particular industry or another. They analyze your problem areas, and prepare a report with suggestions to fix them. The relationship often ends after their findings are presented. They are hired for their area of expertise, specifically focusing on one or more specific areas.

Business coaches are experts in the development of people. They look at every area of your business, and help you discover opportunities you couldn’t see without them. Coaches help you to see the big picture, focusing on building strategy that keeps you moving forward. They walk with you, helping you facilitate change, standing with you as you build growth in your company. They bring out the best in what they already see in you.

Who hires coaches, and why?

Winners hire coaches. People who understand that it’s lonely at the top, and that there is another way. People hire coaches because they want help, not so much because they need help. They understand that their perspective is limited, and that by adding the perspective of a trusted advisor, they will reach higher goals faster. Fortune 500 companies hire coaches, as do small “mom and pop” shops.

What if my business is already successful?

Great! Hiring a professional business coach will help you take your business to the next level, whatever that next level is. Sometimes managing growth is as challenging as declining sales. A business coach will help you navigate any kind of water you are swimming in.

What is the structure of coaching?

All professional business coaches are not alike. Having been certified through BusinessCoach.com, Emergence Business Coaching utilizes methodology developed through over 20 years of coaching hundreds of businesses. We use an organizational approach, coaching not just the executive; rather coaching the entire operation. We use specific and proven methodology that is unique in the industry.

Coaching sessions take place weekly, generally for one hour, pre-scheduled sessions. These sessions usually take place via telephone, however sometimes they will occur in person if geography and time allows.

How will Business Coaching help me?
As long as you are coach-able, coaching can create significant breakthroughs in your life and in your business. Coaching helps you get clear on what you want. It improves your leadership skills, and helps you learn to maximize your people resources. Coaching will give you another perspective, and stimulate new creative ideas. You will remember the passion you once felt for your work. Your bottom line will improve. Your retention percentages will increase. You’ll make efficiency improvements to process. Your business will become stronger, while you find a comfortable balance for life and work in your life.

How can I know I’m ready for coaching?

Only you know when the time is right. If you are ready to rocket boost your business, and create bottom line improvements through diligent attention to working ON your business rather than IN it, it’s wise to hire a qualified professional business coach.

How much time will it take?

There will be one scheduled hour each week with your coach. Additional time implementing new initiatives is likely. You will save time in other areas as your teams and processes begin to show improvement. As part of the process, you will learn to delegate the work that is best done by others. Your time spent working will eventually decrease compared to the time you spent before coaching.

What impact will coaching have on my management team?

Your management team will be energized and refreshed by the coaching process, as long as they are open to coaching and change facilitation. One of the first things we do is determine whether the current mix of staff and management is working to your best advantage. Management staff will need to get on board with your initiatives. They must embrace the concept of coaching. Ultimately they will appreciate the new energy you bring as their leader.

What about confidentiality?

Your coaching sessions are always confidential. We are professionals, and honor our client/coach relationship at all times.

How much will it cost?

Organizational Coaching fees vary based upon the size of the organization and the number of people getting coached. The average range is between $2500-$5000 per month. Rates are also available for individual executive coaching, at $750 per executive. Fees are paid monthly on a retainer basis, due in advance of the coaching month.

How long will we continue our relationship?

We begin with a 12-month contract. Some business coaching relationships last several years, depending upon the relationship and the needs of the client. What work will I need to do between sessions? We will agree upon the work, as it relates to your goals and ambition. There will be recommended books and other reading as part of our coaching relationship.

Are there geographical limits?

There are no geographical limits. We work with English speaking individuals in every state of the U.S., and many international countries.

Are there specialty coaching areas?

Yes, many professional business coaches choose a specialty. It is not necessary for a business coach to have experience in your particular industry. They should come qualifed through a combination of education, experience, and training.

What qualifies someone to be my coach?

The first criterion is to establish a good rapport. The most rewarding and effective coach/client relationships begin with an easy connection. Coaching is an intimate experience, and mutual trust is critical. Certification is another qualification that separates one coach from another. Your coach must have a passion for people and for business, and be willing to demonstrate well refined listening and questioning skills.
